Match report

Broughton U15 - 4
Bishops Waltham Dynamos U15B - 7
Testway League U15 Division 2
For a lot of us this fixture carries extra importance due to a certain ex Dynamo who now plays here, last season this was a high scoring match which was won by the away team. - Excellent ! This year things were pretty similar, except it was all over by the half hour mark - Bloody Marvellous ! A rather chilly and foggy morning for the supporters but ideal playing conditions for the boys, Broughton began full of confidence - having won easily the previous week - pushing Dynamos back as they attacked in numbers chasing long balls over the top. Dynamos, somehow, just managed to keep Broughton from taking the lead in this opening period. But the defensive efforts were rewarded after five minutes, Dynamos cleared the ball to Jack in the centre circle and he released the ever eager Aaron to streak past the Broughton full back and slot the ball into the net almost before the keeper realised there was any danger. The match was now more evenly contested, but Broughton came back in waves and Dynamos were often stretched at the back trying to pick up all the attackers each time. As it was, Broughton drew level with a close range header from a cross on the right. Now we had a really good game to watch as both sides now fancied their chances, but it was to Dynamos who took theirs much the better. As a sighter, Jack hit the post after rounding the keeper, Dynamos midfield were starting to play the front two in and Jack and Aaron were causing havoc amongst the Broughton backs. Equally, at the other end, Dynamos were being stretched in all directions by the continued Broughton mass attacking waves. But it was Dynamos who made the best of their possession, a corner was half cleared to the edge of the Broughton area and fell to Tom B who produced a nicely timed volley to lob the keeper almost on his line, soon afterwards Jack slid the ball to the elusive Aaron and he smashed the ball past the keeper and now there was daylight between the teams. Dynamos were more organised at the back now, Broughton were being caught offisde as their game plan had become predictable, this better positioning allowed JT in the Dynamos goal to come off his line to great effect and help his defenders. as a result more and more Broughton pressure was being cancelled out more easily. Another swift Dynamos counter attack produced an opening for Jack to run in Dynamos fourth, a now rather rare Broughton attack saw their centre forward clean through but his shot came back off the crossbar. A long Dynamos clearance seemed to present no real threat, but this has never been Aaron's view, his chasing persistence caused a mix up between Broughton's keeper and defender which served up Aaron with the chance to roll the ball into the net. Dynamos now lead by four clear goals, I'm thinking this is a record for this team ! Broughton were far from finished however and pulled one back after catching the otherwise excellent Dynamos defence napping, presumably in the euphoria of having such a lead. At the end of the half Dynamos produced a rare passing move involving four or five players which Aaron took it upon himself to finish things off and restore the gap with a fine run and fierce left foot shot into the roof of the net. So, 2-6, and it was only halftime !
Both teams changed things for the second half, which started rather quietly by comparison, in fact a good ten minutes of play produced no real chances at all. Until a certain familiar Broughton player popped up in the Dynamos area to re-enact the famous - 'hand of God' - incident, perfect in every way except that even the ref saw it this time. Broughton did manage to eventually gain the upper hand and after one of those goalmouth scrambles which goes on for ages, and everyone on the pitch has a go at ending it, the last player was a Broughton one so now it was 3-6. Broughton battled really hard to get back into the game but Dynamos were up for the challenge and tackled back well today, both teams contributing equally to an excellent spectacle for the 'crowd'. Dynamos continued excellent defending seemed to have Broughton all out of ideas midway through the second period, Dynamos had more attacking of their own to do, a slightly left of centre free kick was awarded to Dynamos and Tom B curled a shot over the wall only to see his effort headed off the line, the resulting corner was not cleared and fell to Jim who smashed a low shot into the net from six yards. Every time Dynamos managed a four goal gap Broughton managed to peg one back, this time the goal came when a corner was headed from the near post, all the way to the lower far corner evading everyone on the way and just going in off the other post. For a few minutes it looked as if Broughton might further narrow the gap, twice their forward was clean through, first, firing harmlessly over and then JT came out bravely to feet and took the ball cleanly. Having already scored, Jim obviously fancied another but this time the Broughton keeper saved well, Jack had another chance but shot just wide, Rob P hit a long free kick to Aaron who flicked on to Jack but this time his effort was cleared off the line. The excellent referee called time on a game which had been really good to watch and was probably closer than the score suggests but Dynamos were by far the better in front of goal today, especially hat-trick hero and man of the match Aaron.
