Match report

Bishops Waltham Dynamos U15B - 2
South Wonston Swifts U15 - 2
Teatway League U15 Division 2

Lovely morning as usual but this time our 'home' fixture was to be played on one of the large, but nice and flat pitches at Priory Park. Swifts began much the better and had Dynamos pinned back for most of the opening period, having said that Dynamos midfield and a much more organised defence were doing a fine containing job, JT in the Dynamos goal was not troubled in these early stages. Continued Swifts pressure from all sides began to create half chances but with Dynamos defence pushing up well, JT was finding it easy to come out to mop up the through balls and snuff out the threat. The game settled into a good contest with Swifts having slightly the better time of it. Swifts went ahead with an excellent run down the right and cross for a front post tap in. Dynamos observers noted that this was fine as it usually takes going a goal down to lift their team into action ! Soon after, a Swifts corner was cleared by a fine defensive header from Ben K as Swifts attacked again, looking to add to their lead. Suddenly Dynamos were level, Jack played a long ball into the gap behind Swifts defence for Aaron to run onto, he flicked the ball around the advancing keeper and left himself a very acute angle to finish but coolly slid the ball neatly inside the near post and 1-1 it was. Dynamos were having much more of the play now, a great move up front produced a chance for Luke and his shot flew just over the bar. As the half progressed both sides continued to create chances but it was Dynamos who made one count, Jack received a ball in from wide right, turned around his marker and shot into the net from close range. That was the last action of the first half, and what a good slice it was !
The start of the second half saw Swifts win a string of corners as they pressed hard to level the match, Dynamos were lucky not to concede, being slow to clear the ball from the area on several occasions. JT pulled off a couple of fine saves from long range efforts as Swifts were forced back by a determined Dynamos defence. Yet more corners for Swifts yielded nothing for the visitors as Dynamos bodies were flung into some last ditch style defending. Out of the blue we caught a glimpse of what Dynamos are capable of, a slick passing move form Ads to Luke, onto Aaron split open Swifts to create a chance for Jack which the keeper saved. Just when it was looking good for Dynamos, a couple of Swifts forwards were able to evade the otherwise excellent Dynamos marking and had an easy job of getting back on level terms, this raised Swifts game again and now Dynamos were second to everything, especially in midfield, something had to be done. So, manager Adam sent on big Rob for his debut, into the centre he went and became an irresistible force going forward as Swifts bounced off at all angles. Jim was also getting well forward on occasions and latched onto a pass from big Rob and set Jack on his way but his shot hit the side netting. There was a long pause when Sam managed to lose the ball amongst the distant tree line ! Towards the end of the match the pace visibly slowed, the heat and the size of the pitch being the main suspects for this. Even so, there were still chances at either end, Swifts clearly expected the win but were running out of ideas, Dynamos plugged away, Luke released Jack but his long range effort went well over. The game ended without further incident, Dynamos probably much the happier with the result. Top performance today from Rob P at the centre of Dynamos defence.
