Match report

Bishops Waltham Dynamos U16 - 3
Hatch Warren U16 - 1
Testway League U16 Division 2
A bit of a raw morning on the lower tier at, (finally) Priory Park, and on a pitch with some width to it. Dynamos had the task today of climbing above of second placed HW in a fixture which last season they squandered a two goal lead in the final ten minutes to draw 2-2. Dynamos kicked off the proceedings and were on the offensive from the start, a cross to the far post by Jordan found Matt and his header hits the bar. A minute later and a sweeping move from Dynamos, a final through ball to Matt and he beats the keeper at his near post and Dynamos have the all important early lead. The first twenty minutes of play was all Dynamos, some excellent possession created further chances for Jack, Tom B and Joe. HW were not going to give up their second place lightly but their game play has become rather predictable in the last couple of years, in a nutshell, Ads and Greg neutralised the "Barney" threat in the first half and, without a plan B HW began to lose their way up front. Once again Dynamos have won numerous first half corners and really struggled to make this pressure affect the score in any meaningful way, not that there is any problem with the actual delivery. On the half hour JT is called upon to make his first save of the morning, HW win a soft free kick midway into Dynamos territory but it's too long for any forward to latch onto. A great move down Dynamos right involving Sam and Joe lets Matt free and his cross goes right across the face of the HW goal begging to be tapped in (but it wasn't). A long HW through ball is keenly chased into the Dynamos area, as usual JT is brave to collect but slides outside still holding the ball, but HW are unable to make anything of the chance. Perhaps because of the constant pleas from manager Adam (or not) Dynamos began to display an ability to keep the ball by occasionally passing back in order to go forward and thus frustrating HW even more. One such move resulted in Dynamos doubling their lead after the passing had carved the HW defence open and Jack was clean through and scored the hard way when it seemed easier to just go round the advancing keeper. So, 2-0 at half time and the only thing on our minds was the sequence of events from last season.
HW begin the second period, but it is Dynamos who grab the initiative, a great passing move down the left involving Ads, Tom B, and Rob P allows Jordan to cross low into the box, it's half cleared as far as Matt who smashes the ball emphatically into the roof of the net from the edge of the area and a repeat of last season looks a lot less likely. Dynamos were creating chances but were struggling to get bodies into the box to finish, Rob R sees the problem and tries his luck from inside his own half but it's just wide. Rob P off, Tim on. Most of Dynamos attacking going down the left through Jordan, this time it is Jordan himself who lets fly and hits the outside of the left upright from outside the area. Jack and Joe off, Arun and Ben K on. Whilst Dynamos were re-organising HW took the opportunity to attack swiftly down the centre, it was the one and only time that Barney was through on goal but the shot when it came was hardly worthy of the label. Greg was rather too amused by this and was spoken to by the referee. Minutes later after more 'chat' Greg comes off Joe is back on and Ben K goes to center back. Ten minutes of normal time to go and HW have their first corner, which they ominously head just over the bar. Three minutes later and Dynamos are scrappy, lose possession in the middle of their half and allow HW to come forward unchallenged, an excellent shot gives JT no chance and now it's 3-1 and a lot of added time to come ! But HW were a spent force by now and the game slowed, Jordan, who really deserved a goal managed to hit the bar with a curling shot with the keeper out of position. Some trademark long throws by Tim helped keep HW pushed back, eventually the ghost of last year was laid to rest at the final whistle. This result puts Dynamos into a four way battle for the title this season but still to play the leaders, great performances today from Greg, Ads and man of the match Matt.
